While we aren’t moving into our new office until summer, we’re already making use of the new building by playing venue to a unique art and culture event. Happening on Saturday, February 16, Parachute Factory will feature live music, local bites, and amazing works of art from over forty artists, including our very own Michael Tussey, Art Director extraordinaire!
Presented by Yeller Studio and Sezio, Parachute Factory is set to showcase cinematic art, paintings, and installations from over forty local artists. The exhibition will take full advantage of the multi-level warehouse location and encourage guests to explore the arts in an unexpected way. In addition to taking in the event’s many masterpieces, you’ll also be able to catch live music from five bands and artists, sip on Karl Strauss brews, and enjoy delicious eats from MIHO Gastrotruck.
The new office, a huge historical warehouse in the East Village, was home to the Pacific Parachute Company during World War II (hence the event name). Established in 1942, Pacific Parachute Company was helmed by Eddie “Rochester” Anderson and Howard “Skippy” Smith and played a huge role in pioneering racially-integrated work environments in America’s defense industry. Although the company eventually folded after paratrooper parachute demand took a dip post-war, Pacific Parachute Company made a lasting impression on San Diego. We’re really excited to have such amazing history in the Mindgruve family, and we can’t wait to show off the new building when construction finishes up in a few months. Until then, you can get a sneak preview, enjoy an amazing event, and support talented local artists — what’s not to love? Here are the details:
