Mindgruve CFO, James Earwicker, is a finalist for San Diego Business Journal’s 2020 CFO of the Year Award. The annual celebration honors the financial executives who work behind the scenes of their respective companies to bolster success while positively impacting the San Diego County business community. Nominees typically come from a wide range of industries, including marketing, manufacturing, defense, technology firms, real estate and beyond.

James transformed the financial management infrastructure at both Mindgruve Holdings and Mindgruve Ventures in 2019. Specifically, he refocused reporting to support the advancement of the core businesses while aligning KPIs with employee-focused measurement tools and goals. He also further integrated the finance and accounting teams to improve process learning and garnered feedback that optimized reporting and financing target assessment.

These efforts along with many others have increased the stability and capacity for the two entities, which will help stimulate growth in the coming years. James’ management of key vendor and financial relationships has proven critical in obtaining additional financial flexibility as well.

Outside of Mindgruve, James expanded his existing role with National University. He took on additional teaching responsibilities, guided junior adjunct faculty and mentored students from varying backgrounds and professional levels. He also volunteered in his spare time with YMCA, Food Bank and the United Way.
