Mindgruve is seeking an Associate Director, Public Relations to contribute to the day-to-day strategy, execution, and management of public relations initiatives across a diverse client portfolio — including a national brand in the building materials/outdoor living industry.
We are prioritizing candidates located in or near Covington, KY, as this role is expected to be in-office on a hybrid basis..
What You'll Do Here:
Support:
- Act as the internal day-to-day lead for a national client in the outdoor living space, managing and collaborating closely with an external PR agency — providing briefs, approvals, feedback, and strategic oversight to keep momentum and output strong.
- Support annual and quarterly PR planning to align with client goals, product launches, and seasonal priorities, ensuring integrated efforts across media relations, content, and influencer campaigns.
- Review and contribute to the development of press releases, pitches, bylined articles, and social media copy.
Lead:

- Develop and implement PR strategies that support brand awareness and business objectives across B2C and B2B categories.
- Lead and support PR efforts for Mindgruve and our clients, from media outreach to thought leadership and storytelling.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with key media contacts across top-tier national, trade, regional, and local outlets.
- Secure earned media coverage through strategic pitching, product placement, and compelling storytelling.
- Oversee or contribute to the development of press releases, pitches, bylined articles, and social media copy.
- Develop and manage influencer strategies that complement media relations, including identifying partners, negotiating contracts, briefing talent, and analyzing performance.
- Serve as a strategic client partner and advisor, providing clear communication, consistent reporting, and proactive recommendations.
- Mentor junior PR team members and foster cross-functional collaboration with internal creative, media, and strategy teams.
- Monitor, measure, and analyze campaign performance and media results, offering insights and optimizations.
We Need a Person With:
- 10+ years of public relations experience, with a strong preference for those with experience in building materials, home improvement, consumer lifestyle, or adjacent industries.
- Proven success securing earned coverage in national consumer and trade media.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with attention to detail and message alignment.
- Previous experience managing or supporting account teams and client relationships, especially in an agency environment.
- Ability to evaluate creative work and manage internal/external resources to deliver high-quality results.
- Familiarity with tools like Cision, Muck Rack, or Meltwater.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
- Experience working at or with a PR/advertising agency is a plus.
- Experience working with Fortune 500 companies is a plus.
- Strong understanding of how public relations integrates with digital marketing and brand strategy is a plus.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
